The Impact of Health Literacy Upon Lung Cancer Screening Beliefs among Residents of Neighborhood Adjacent to Refinery Oil at Basra City
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Background and Objectives:

The closeness of residential neighborhoods to oil refineries and petrochemical plants in these areas has heightened the community’s exposure to dangerous air pollutants. This study aimed to investigate the impact of health literacy upon lung cancer screening beliefs among residents of neighborhood adjacent to a refinery oil.

Materials and Methods:

A cross-sectional study design using nonprobability convenience sampling was applied, employing descriptive, correlational, and regression analyses to explore potential predictors of the sampling technique from October 10, 2024, to March 20, 2025. The data collected were organized and analyzed using SPSS version 26, and the results were presented descriptively and inferentially.

Results:

The findings of the current study showed that age, duration of residence in close industrial zones, and socioeconomic status significantly influenced perceptions of lung cancer screening. Members with higher cancer health literacy (CHL) exhibited more positive attitudes. Barriers included fear, stigma, and misconceptions regarding screening benefits and purpose, with evident gaps in cancer-related knowledge.

Conclusion:

Low CHL in areas with industrial fragments contributes to negative screening beliefs, late diagnosis, and poor participation. Addressing literacy gaps is vital for improving early detection and outcomes.

This study aimed to estimate the prevalence, severity and the possible associated etiological factors of molar incisor hypomineralisation and also to study the correlation between body mass index and molar incisor hypomineralisation. Material and Methods: Across sectional study conducted at Al-Najaf Governorate. A total of 600 children were enrolled those

Objective: The present study aims to investigate molecular confirmation for Cryptosporidium species in fish handlers in Baghdad City, central Iraq. Materials and Methods: Sixty stool samples were collected between early November 2023 and late April 2024. All samples were examined phenotypically using a modified Ziehl-Neelsen stain and genotypically (nested polymerase chain reaction technique) based on a partial sequence of 18S rRNA genes with sequencing and phylogenetic tree analysis. Results: The total molecular results identified Cryptosporidium parvum with an infection rate of 45% (27/60). A higher infection rate of 51.9% (14/27) was found in the age group between 15 and 35 years, and male

Baqubah city has grown extremely rapidly. The rate of growth exceeds the growth of services that must grow side by side with the growth of population. There are natural features that affect the growth of Baqubah city such as Dieyala river, Alssariya river, in addition to agricultural areas .All these natural features affect the growth of Baqubah city in the running form being seen . In this research the remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) techniques are used for monitoring urban expansion and forecasting the probable axes to the growth of the city, and found that the probability of Baqubah growth to east is preferred due to Baqubah growth to the east would never interfere with natural features.
