Foundation relative stiffness effects in sand under static loading
...Show More Authors

In the geotechnical engineering applications, precise understandings are yet to be established on the effects of a foundation stiffness on its bearing capacity and settlement. The modern foundation construction uses the new available construction materials that totally change the relative stiffness of the footing structures-soil interactions such as waste material and landfill area of more residential purposes. Conventional bearing capacity equations were dealt with common rigid footing and thus cannot be used for reduced foundation rigidity. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of foundation relative stiffness on its load-displacement behaviour and the soil deformation field using compression test of a strip smooth footings on surface of sand of different packing densities. Nine experimental tests using three footing materials (plastic (P), rubber (R) and aluminium (A)) that differ in relative stiffness with three soil densities were used. This study has separated the effects of relative stiffness of the foundation systems on bearing capacity and settlement by defining the failure mechanism using digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV). The bearing capacity decreases as the foundation system stiffness increases. This decrease, however, is also associated with a smaller ultimate settlement. It is also apparent that a clear trend can be observed in dimensions of the slip surface when comparing rigid and flexible foundation systems. The soil particles in the failure zone under the footing have the highest vertical displacement for the increase in the rigidity of the footing system. A change in the relative stiffness of a foundation system affects the deformation of a granular media and particular analyses have been taken into the load-displacement behaviour, failure mechanisms and velocity fields.

Urban Security in Cities Planning
...Show More Authors

Cities have witnessed great changes since the planning of the first cities. This is due to the increase in population and problems in services which affect urban security. As such, urban security is directed and affected by the nature of city planning and the types of services. Besides, the kind of services plays an imminent place in providing urban security at all levels. Other factors that influence urban security can be limited to the increase of population, economic and social changes. This leads to losing urban control. This study will explore the historical chronology to identify weaknesses in urban planning since its dawn and reaching solutions to protect urban security. The importance of the research lies in achieving urban secur

Background:The document on hypertension in the elderly promoted by the American college of cardiology and the American heart association (ACCF/AHA) was written with the intent to be a complete reference at the time of publication on the topic of managing hypertension in the elderly. More recently, the European society of hypertension (ESH) and the European society of cardiology (ESC) issued the 2013 ESH/ESC Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension, followed by The 2014 Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHPE), and the Eighth Report of the Joint National Committee (JNC8), all of which has endorsed specific recommendations for the management of elderly hypertensive patients.

Dialogue bridges in the city

Since its establishment, cities have been looking for a special urban architectural language that distinguishes them from other cities and expresses their distinctive identity through continuous products through time and controls the totality of temporal and spatial changes through a bridging dialogue that manages the language of the city correctly, Which gives the stability of that language and its ability to adapt to the total changes that occur in the city over time, and thus the possibility of producing ideas integrated series and ideas are renewed overlapping with the legacy and bear multiple layers of meaning and signals and symbols create a total of two meanings The problem of research (not comprehensive studies to create a contem

The research addressed the problem of widows that increased recently enormously. The researcher also referred to the perspective of Islam that gave a significant attention for both widows and orphans as powerless groups. Some straightforward example were presented to reflect the actual difficulties that encounter these groups as well as the author proposed number of appropriate ways that mitigate their psychological and physical sufferings such as: the provision of convenience jobs, and the legislation of rule that save their rights. Moreover, the researcher addressed the importance of marrying widows and what these challenges that encounter polygamy in Arab societies, the advantages and disadvantages of polygamy, and discussing all the

Literacy-based instruction in STEM
...Show More Authors

Socio-scientific issues provide a great platform to both engage students in scientific topics and assess their understanding of scientific concepts. Nancy R. Singer, Amy Lannin, Maha Kareem, William Romine, and Katie Kline report on the STEM Literacy Project, a three-year National Science Foundation grant that aimed to improve STEM teachers’ knowledge and integration of literacy in their classrooms. They describe teachers’ professional learning, scenario-based assessments and other strategies they incorporated in their STEM classrooms, and how writing enables students to understand real-world issues.

This research deals with dialogic submission as one of the most important deliberative topics in the process of linguistic communication between the two sides of the discourse, and therefore we find in this research its concept among the ancient Arabs of grammarians, rhetoric and fundamentalists, and we started with Western linguists as a result of their knowledge of the philosophy of language, and this research was satisfied with the principle of cooperation that came By Grace as the founder of this modern deliberative topic with an attempt to monitor this principle in the prophetic stories and the susceptibility of the stories to this kind of implicit communication, as the prophetic stories included multiple deliberative dimensions of

Communicative competence in postmodern art

This study presents the concept of communicating as criticism analytical vision of art in general and contemporary composition particularly. Art is a means of communication for that activity to participate in the information or meanings, where the artwork is the message that includes what the artist sends ideas ,to the recipient . Thus, the language of communication between the artist and the receiver are made through the artwork (whatever his specialty: theatrically, plastic art, musically) and the magnitude of the meaning of outwardly or inwardly, is determined by the relationship between the artist and the recipient of which lead us turn to the issue of communication between them . .
