Foundation relative stiffness effects in sand under static loading
...Show More Authors

In the geotechnical engineering applications, precise understandings are yet to be established on the effects of a foundation stiffness on its bearing capacity and settlement. The modern foundation construction uses the new available construction materials that totally change the relative stiffness of the footing structures-soil interactions such as waste material and landfill area of more residential purposes. Conventional bearing capacity equations were dealt with common rigid footing and thus cannot be used for reduced foundation rigidity. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of foundation relative stiffness on its load-displacement behaviour and the soil deformation field using compression test of a strip smooth footings on surface of sand of different packing densities. Nine experimental tests using three footing materials (plastic (P), rubber (R) and aluminium (A)) that differ in relative stiffness with three soil densities were used. This study has separated the effects of relative stiffness of the foundation systems on bearing capacity and settlement by defining the failure mechanism using digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV). The bearing capacity decreases as the foundation system stiffness increases. This decrease, however, is also associated with a smaller ultimate settlement. It is also apparent that a clear trend can be observed in dimensions of the slip surface when comparing rigid and flexible foundation systems. The soil particles in the failure zone under the footing have the highest vertical displacement for the increase in the rigidity of the footing system. A change in the relative stiffness of a foundation system affects the deformation of a granular media and particular analyses have been taken into the load-displacement behaviour, failure mechanisms and velocity fields.

Luxury in jewelry design

The current research dealt with the presence of ornaments and jewelry since ancient times، which express the social، religious or emotional status of the person who adorns them، in addition to being distinguished by a distinct aesthetic and luxury، that is، in a sense closely related to the social and economic status of people، and we note that jewelry is considered a symbol of luxury and luxury، and hence The need to study luxury appeared in the design of ornaments and jewelry because it refers to the adornment elements that are made of metals and precious stones، which actually indicate signs of status or position that distinguish social classes from each other. The problem was identified by the following question: Determine th

This research concerned with studying act in contemporary painting , based on the role played by the act in achieving the structure of plastic art work artistically and aesthetically . The study consisted of three chapters: In the first one (the methodological framework) the problem has been displayed and the research aimed to detect : 1. The concept of the act in the structure of contemporary painting . 2. The impact of the act in the formation of the artistic style . as well as putting its boundaries represented in artistic movements : Abstract Expressionism , Pop Art and Conceptual Art within the period between 1945 and until the end of the seventh decade of the twentieth century. Equality in Islamic Thought

The concept of equality in Islamic thought emanates from the unity of human entity that does not breach the concept of equality in itself and it should take differentiation among people as means for development and growth not as excuse for injustice and discrimination. Islamic thought has left all the prevailing norms of differentiation such as (weakness and strength, economic and social position, gender, color, and social class). Islamic thought has underscored the quality of people of different race, race, color, and language which was not familiar in those civilizations before the emergence of Islam such as (Egyptian, Persian, roman civilization). It was common to divide people into different social classes. The aim of Islam is to kee

Visual discourse in television

Visual discourse in cinema and television is an expressive medium that carries its audio and visual elements and is effective in influencing the memory of the recipient, according to multiple patterns of forms and representations aimed at persuasion, influence, entertainment, enjoyment and knowledge. This speech will not pass by the recipient without difficulty, as the multiplicity of forms and techniques of image presentation and the diversity of contents derived from different beliefs, concepts, ideas and perceptions may sometimes reach intersections and conflicts, which is reflected in the form of the screen and the theory of television. This motivates us to know the ways in which audio-visual discourse is produced on television, whic

Romanticism in Virtual World

When Romanticism had passed since its appearance at the end of the eighteenth century, it seemed that this important intellectual and philosophical development had been absent but not really lost. Romanticism remained in the poems of poets, philosophers and writers even after they had escaped cultural life in general. If it is difficult to itemize all the principles of romance, the apparent is the assertion of individualism and the love of autism with nature and its potential with its mysteries as well as the glorification of emotion, compared to the mental orientation of the writers in the seventeenth century in their classical approach. The language is the most important to what the Romans have proven in their poetry and their artistic wo

This research aims to investigate the impacts of Quranic readings on the meanings of antonyms in the Quran, with considering the practical aspects that clarify them. The importance of this topic lies in clarifying the importance of the science of Qiraʼat, its great value and its high status. Moreover, this research sheds light on the relationship between Quranic readings and the antonyms words, following the descriptive approach in the study. The research has found several findings, the most prominent of which was: antonyms are linguistic phenomena that are proven to occur in Quranic readings, so each reading deliver a meaning that is opposite to the meaning learned from the other reading. In addition, Quranic readings are considered as
