The red tripyrrole pigment known as prodigiosin (PG), which belongs to the prodigiosin family, is an interesting substance that has attracted the attention of scientists due to its versatility. Thanks to its striking red pigment and distinctive chemical characteristics, prodigiosin has caught the attention of researchers seeking new solutions across a variety of disciplines. Serratia marcescens and other bacteria like Hahella chejuensis, Vibrio gazogenes, Pseudoalteromonas rubra, Janthinobacterium lividum, Actinomadura madurae, and Streptomyces coelicolor produce prodigiosin, a red pigment that functions as secondary metabolite. Prodigiosin has shown promising activity as an antibacterial agent in numerous experiments. Prodigiosin is a promising treatment for combating antibiotic-resistant strains and increasing effectiveness of current antibiotic treatments in the face of increasing environmental antibiotic resistance. Furthermore, numerous studies have shown that this natural pigment possesses anticancer characteristics through growth inhibition and spread of cancer cells by the induction of programmed cell death in cancer cells without seriously harming healthy cells. PG have antiviral, antiprotozoal, antifungal, and many applications in food industry. This study aims to elucidate chemical and biological properties of the dye and to assess its potential as a biotherapeutic alternative to conventional antibiotics in the treatment of pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Leuconostoc bacteria was isolated from local pickled cabbage (Brassica oleracea capitata) and identified as Leuconostoc mesenteroides by morphology,biochemical and physiological. The local isolated L. mesenteroides bacteria under the optimal conditions of dextran production showed that, the highly production of dextran was 7.7g achieved by using a modified natural media comprised of 100ml whey, 10g refined sugar, 0.5g heated yeast extract, 0.01g CaCl2, 0.001g MgSO4, 0.001g MnCl2 and 0.001g NaCl at pH 6 and 25̊C for 24 hr of fermentation and by using 1ᵡ106 cell/ml as initial inoculums volume. Show MoreThe environmental contamination by the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Ni, Cr, and Cd) concentrations in the leaves of plant Eucalyptus camaldulensis were determined at the city of Kirkuk in 15 selected locations using GPS. The pickings up of samples were carried out in two periods October 2010 and March 2011. Compared with results of other studies, the concentration levels of determined heavy metals show values within these studies results. The average total concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the leaves of Plant Eucalyptus camaldulensis indicated 37.1 ppb in October, while in March 165.2 ppb.
