Effect of educational strategies to develop nursing students’ skills in pediatric procedures

BACKGROUND:

Training nursing students on different pediatric nursing procedures by interactive learning methods prior to their dealing with children can ensure providing them with an adequate knowledge base and skills. There is a gap between theory and clinical practice. One of the methods proposed to block the gap between training and clinical practice is to transform traditional education systems into new method-based learning. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of simulation, blended, and self-directed learning methods on nursing students’ skills in some pediatric nursing procedures.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

A quasi experimental, pretest and posttest design used, with participant of 150 nursing students, divided into three groups equally. Students’ skills were measured before and after applying the learning methods by checklist observation scales. Data analysis achieved by SPSS program.

RESULTS:

Students’ skills regarding nasogastric tube insertion, urinary catheterization, and intramuscular injection revealed highly significant differences between the study groups associated with “Greenhouse-Geisser” correction at P values = 0.001, 0.001, and 0.001; and large size effect by Partial Eta Squared (0.887, 0.902, and 0.582), respectively, of simulation strategy, and at P values = 0.001, 0.001, and 0.001; and large size effect by Partial Eta Squared (0.813, 0.936, and 0.883), respectively, of blended strategy, and at P values = 0.001, 0.001, and 0.001; and large size effect by Partial Eta Squared (0.871, 0.739, and 0.667), respectively, of self-directed strategy. It is evident of descriptive data the noticeable increasing of mean score on students’ skills during post-test 1 and 2 that indicate the effectiveness of learning strategies. The level of students’ satisfaction was high level in post 1 (80.1) and post 2 (95.3).

CONCLUSION:

Based on the findings, the used learning methods: simulation, blended, and self-directed were effective in improving of nursing students’ skills regarding pediatric procedures. We recommend to use these educational strategies to educate nursing students.

Variation of Faba Beans (Vicia faba L.) Traits Induced By Heat, Electric Shock and Mutagen Nitrous Acid

Bioremediation of Nickel and Lead contaminated soil by Vica faba L. plant and AM fungi Glomus mosseae

This study is conducted to determine the activity of plant Vica faba and two isolated from arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi (A,B) in bioremediation of soil pollution by Nickel and Lead elements in north and south of Baghdad city. Characterization of the Groundwater within Regional Aquifers and Suitability Assessment for Various Uses and Purposes-Western Iraq

The physicochemical analyses of 64 groundwater samples collected from seven aquifers were used in the determination of groundwater characterization and assessment. The concept of spatial hydrochemical bi-model was prepared for quantitative and qualitative interpretation. Esterification of Free Fatty Acid with High Chain Alcohol for Biodiesel Production Using Semi-Batch Reactive Distillation

The esterification of oleic acid with 2-ethylhexanol in presence of sulfuric acid  as homogeneous catalyst was investigated in this work to produce 2-ethylhexyl oleate (biodiesel) by using semi batch reactive distillation. The effect of reaction temperature (100 to 130°C), 2-ethylhexanol:oleic acid molar ratio (1:1 to 1:3) and catalysts concentration (0.2 to 1wt%) were studied. Higher conversion of 97% was achieved with operating conditions of reaction temperature of 130°C, molar ratio of free fatty acid to alcohol of 1:2 and catalyst concentration of 1wt%. A simulation was adopted from basic principles of the reactive distillation using MATLAB to describe the process. Good agreement was achieved.

Uni and Simplex Optimization for the Spectrophotometric Determination of Erythromycin ethylsuccinate Drug via Charge-Transfer Complex Formation

Charge transfer complex formation method has been applied for the spectrophotometric determination of erythromycin ethylsuccinate, in bulk sample and dosage form. The method was accurate, simple, rapid, inexpensive and sensitive depending on the formed charge- transfer complex between cited drug and, 2,3- Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p- benzoquinone (DDQ) as a chromogenic reagent. The formed complex shows absorbance maxima at 587 nm against reagent blank. The calibration graph is linear in the ranges of (10 - 110) μg.mL-1 with detection limit of 0.351μg.mL-1. A Comparison between Ericson's Formulae Results and Experimental Data Using New Formulae of Single Particle Level Density

The partial level density PLD of pre-equilibrium reactions that are described by Ericson’s formula has been studied using different formulae of single particle level density . The parameter  was used from the equidistant spacing model (ESM) model and the non- equidistant spacing model (non-ESM) and another formula of  are derived from the relation between  and level density parameter . The formulae used to derive  are the Roher formula, Egidy formula, Yukawa formula, and Thomas –Fermi formula.
