...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Introduction: Environmental sustainability is crucial for maintaining diverse and productive biological systems. Terrestrial isopods, such as Porcellionides cingendus, are known for their environmentally friendly characteristics and adaptability. This study explores the potential of P. cingendus in improving environmental sustainability. Methods: Samples of P. cingendus were collected from various locations and reared in controlled environments. Waste consumption efficiency was evaluated by measuring the consumption of various cellulosic wastes over 15 days. Statistical analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA. Results and Discussion: P. cingendus individuals exhibited varying consumption rates for different types of wastes. Wood sawdust recorded the highest consumption percentage (99.2%), followed by citrus leaves (81.9%), potato peels (70.4%), Cynodon dactylon (68.4%), and cardboard (34.1%). The consumption differences can be attributed to dietary preference, food source, and digestibility. Wood sawdust, with its cellulose content, was highly attractive to P. cingendus. Citrus leaves were preferred due to their chemical composition and smell. However, cardboard was the least preferred, possibly due to its chemical composition and lack of easy digestibility. Conclusion: P. cingendus, particularly its preference for wood sawdust and citrus leaves, shows potential for efficiently consuming cellulosic wastes, indicating their ability to contribute to environmental cleaning and sustainability. Understanding the waste consumption efficiency of P. cingendus can aid in developing strategies for waste management and ecological preservation. Further research is warranted to explore their role as bioindicators for assessing environmental sustainability.</p>

Fate, uptake, and distribution of nanoencapsulated pesticides in soil–earthworm systems and implications for environmental risk assessment
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<label></label><p>Nanopesticides are novel plant protection products offering numerous benefits. Because nanoparticles behave differently from dissolved chemicals, the environmental risks of these materials could differ from conventional pesticides. We used soil–earthworm systems to compare the fate and uptake of analytical‐grade bifenthrin to that of bifenthrin in traditional and nanoencapsulated formulations. Apparent sorption coefficients for bifenthrin were up to 3.8 times lower in the nano treatments than in the non‐nano treatments, whereas dissipation half‐lives of the nano treatments were up to 2 times longer. Earthworms in the nano treatments accumulated approximately 50% more b</p>
... Show More

Synthesis and Environmental Application of BiOI/BiOCl Composites
...Show More Authors

This work illustrates an enhanced visible light photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange dye (M.O.) by employing BiOI / BiOCl composites prepared under room temperature and without any organic precursors. Various experimental parameters have been studied, namely; composition of the composite, irradiation time and cell material. Composition D which implied 75% BiOI and 25% BiOCl has shown the highest bleaching of M.O. dye. This confirms the optimum photo-sensitization phenomenon for this composition in comparison to others. In the optimum photo-sensitized composite the electron of the conduction band reveals better reducing power and the hole of the valence band exhibits more oxidative power than those of pure BiOI electron and hole. Assessment Resistance Potential to Moisture Damage and Rutting for HMA Mixtures Reinforced by Steel Fibers
...Show More Authors

Rutting is mainly referring to pavement permanent deformation, it is a major problem for flexible pavement and it is a complicated process and highly observed along with many segments of asphalt pavement in Iraq. The occurrence of this defect is related to several variables such as elevated temperatures and high wheel loads. Studying effective methods to reduce rutting distress is of great significance for providing a safe and along-life road. The asphalt mixture used to be modified by adding different types of additives. The addition of additives typically excesses stiffness, improves temperature susceptibility, and reduces moisture sensitivity. For this work, steel fibres have been used for modifying asphalt mixture as they incorp

Polyalphaolefin as a potential modifying agent for hard asphalt cement: Physical, rheological, and chemical characterization
...Show More Authors

Hard-grade asphalt binders like AC20-30 typically exhibit excessive stiffness, reduced penetration, and compromised workability, necessitating modification before use in paving applications. This study evaluates the efficacy of regular polyalphaolefin (PAO), a synthetic olefin-based lubricant, as a performance-enhancing modifying agent for such binders. AC20-30 was blended with PAO at dosages ranging from 2 wt.% to 10 wt.%, and the modified binders were characterized via penetration, ductility, softening point, and rotational viscosity measurements, alongside advanced rheological and chemical-morphological analyses. Incorporating PAO in AC20-30 asphalt progressively reduced the binder stiffness and enhanced its flexibility, with all modifie
