Effect of Palliative Radiotherapy in controlling pain of Malignancy
...Show More Authors

Background: Radiation therapy reported to be an effective in palliating pain. Objective: To describe roles of palliative radiotherapy in controlling pain in metastatic cancerous patients, and evaluation of radio-therapy doses in pain management. Methods: A prospective observational study carried out at the Baghdad Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Center/Baghdad Medical City Complex, Baghdad, Iraq, from 1st of December 2018 to 30th of May 2019. 88 Patients, were included. Patients were assessed before applying radiotherapy, and at the end of treatment. Pain scoring used from 0 to 10. Kaplan Meier survival curve used. Result: The mean±SD of age was 55.44±11.1 years, and the most frequent age group was 41-50years as 37(42.1%). Breast cancer come in 1st rank cases studied in our research as 35(39.8%). 42(47.7%) of patients received radio-therapy on metastatic spine vertebral lesions. Sharp pain, frequent pain, pain at night were the commonest. Before treatment, the most common scoring was (8) in 33(37.5%) patients, while after palliative radio-therapy the scoring shift downward. Radio-therapy dose of 1200 cGy improved overall survival of patients in this study to 21.5 weeks (95%CI= 20.2-22.8). Conclusion: Radiotherapy is effective in palliative therapy. A dose of 1200 cGy improved overall survival of patients in this study to 21.5 weeks.

Evaluation of massive multiple-input multiple-output communication performance under a proposed improved minimum mean squared error precoding

The fundamental of a downlink massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) energy- issue efficiency strategy is known as minimum mean squared error (MMSE) implementation degrades the performance of a downlink massive MIMO energy-efficiency scheme, so some improvements are adding for this precoding scheme to improve its workthat is called our proposal solution as a proposed improved MMSE precoder (PIMP). The energy efficiency (EE) study has also taken into mind drastically lowering radiated power while maintaining high throughput and minimizing interference issues. We further find the tradeoff between spectral efficiency (SE) and EE although they coincide at the beginning but later their interests become con

Use of Scalp Hair as a Biomarker to Determine Airborne Heavy Metal Concentrations for the Academic Laboratory Employees
...Show More Authors

Academic chemical laboratories (ACL) are considered public places the employees come in contact with a variety of pollutants. The aim of the current study was to detect heavy metals levels in the indoor air of ACL in two universities in Baghdad city and assess their levels in the academic employees’ scalp hair as biomarkers. Air samples inside ACL were collected to detect Fe, Cd, Zn, Pb and Cu. Scalp hair samples were collected from 40 adult chemical laboratory employees aged 30-60 years, who worked 5 days/week for 6 hours a day. Personal information relating to employees such as age, duration of exposure, smoking habit and sex, was collected as a questionnaire. The results of this study concluded that academic laboratory employ

Tectonic activation and the risk of Ilisu Dam collapse to Iraq through modelling and simulation using HEC-RAS

Abstract
Floods caused by dam failures can cause huge losses of life and property, especially in estuarine areas and valleys. In spite of all the capabilities and great improvements reached by man in the construction of dams and their structures, they will remain helpless before the powerful forces of nature, especially those related to tectonic activation, and the occurrence of earthquakes of different intensities.

The region extending from the Ilisu Dam in Turkey to the Mosul Dam in Iraq was chosen as an area for this study, and the HEC-RAS application was used to simulate the collapse of the Ilisu Dam due to a major earthquake, to know the magnitude of the risks and losses that could result
... The modified predator–prey model response to the effects of global warming, wind flow, fear, and hunting cooperation
...Show More Authors

Global warming has a serious impact on the survival of organisms. Very few studies have considered the effect of global warming as a mathematical model. The effect of global warming on the carrying capacity of prey and predators has not been studied before. In this article, an ecological model describing the relationship between prey and predator and the effect of global warming on the carrying capacity of prey was studied. Moreover, the wind speed was considered an influencing factor in the predation process after developing the function that describes it. From a biological perspective, the nonnegativity and uniform bounded of all solutions for the model are proven. The existence of equilibria for the model and its local stability is inves

Resistance of bonded premolars to four artificial ageing models post enamel conditioning with a novel calcium-phosphate paste
...Show More Authors

Background: This in vitro study compares a novel calcium-phosphate etchant paste to conventional 37% phosphoric acid gel for bonding metal and ceramic brackets by evaluating the shear bond strength, remnant adhesive and enamel damage following water storage, acid challenge and fatigue loading. Material and Methods: Metal and ceramic brackets were bonded to 240 extracted human premolars using two enamel conditioning protocols: conventional 37% phosphoric acid (PA) gel (control), and an acidic calcium-phosphate (CaP) paste. The CaP paste was prepared from β-tricalcium phosphate and monocalcium phosphate monohydrate powders mixed with 37% phosphoric acid solution, and the resulting phase was confirmed using FTIR. The bonded premolars were exp

Cytotoxic Evaluation of Doxorubicin Combination with Baicalein and Resveratrol Against Hct116 and Hepg2 Cancer Cell Lines (Conference Paper) #
...Show More Authors

Combination of natural poly-phenolic compounds with chemotherapeutic agents is recently being a novel strategy in cancer therapy researches owing to their potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that modulate several intracellular signaling pathways.

Resveratrol and Baicalein are well known poly-phenolic compounds that belong to stilbene and flavone subclasses, respectively.

This study aims to investigate the possible enhancement effect of resveratrol and Baicalein when combined with doxorubicin using a different combination ratio and applied on two cancer cell lines: HCT116 (colorectal cancer cells) and HepG2 (hepatocellular cancer cells). It also investigates the possibility of such natural compounds to p

The Distribution of ABO blood groups among type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients with or without Chronic Microvascular Complications

The ABO blood group system is highly polymorphic, with more than 20 distinct sub-groups; study findings are usually related to ABO phenotype, but rarely to the ABO genotype and animal models are unsatisfactory because their antigen glycosylation structure is different from humans. Both the ABO and Rh blood group systems have been associated with a number of diseases, but this is more likely related to the presence or absence of these tissue antigens throughout the body and not directly or primarily related to their presence on RBCs. A total of fifty-two 52 patients without complication of DMII, two hundred sixteen 216 patients with complication of DMII and seventy-one 71 person as healthy control were included in the study.
