Antimicrobial Efficacy of Pelargonium Graveolens Gold Nanoparticles: A Novel Mouthwash for Children
...Show More Authors
ABSTRACT
<title>Background

Nowadays, there is a trend to promote the use of natural materials in dentistry. One of these compounds that has lately grown significantly in relevance in clinical research is Pelargonium Graveolens .

Objectives

This study was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) of Pelargonium Graveolens leaves extract for children in comparison with the commonly used chlorhexidine. There are no previously available studies concerning the anti‐microbial activity of Pelargonium Graveolens leaves.

Materials and Method

Sixty participants with mild to moderate gingivitis were randomly allocated in a ratio of 1:1 to receive twice‐daily mouthwash for 3 weeks (30 with a novel herbal mouthwash containing Pelargonium Graveolens AuNPs as a study group and 30 children with chlorhexidine as a control group). Clinical parameters (plaque index and gingival index) were assessed at the baseline (before the use of mouthwash), and then they were assessed 3 times at one‐week intervals after the first assessment through the period of the study. On the other hand, microbiological examination was done using supragingival plaque sampling with a curette for those participants at the baseline and three weeks after the use of the mouthwash.

Results

After completing the intervention, although the study group had lower plaque scores compared to the control group, the difference was statistically significant. On the other hand, the study group had a significant reduction in the gingival index scores compared to the control group ( p  = 0.000). The microbiological analysis revealed that the treatment mouthwash significantly depleted the count of S. mutans in the last visit.

Conclusion

The novel Pelargonium Graveolens AuNPs mouthwash was effective in improving (PI) and (GI), which mean improve oral health status. Rinsing with Pelargonium Graveolens AuNPs mouthwash reduced the count of oral Streptococcus mutans significantly in children. Clinical trial registration Number: ClinicalTrials.gov on April 15, 2023, with ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT05816512.

The Wound Healing effect of the Green Synthesized Iron Oxide Nanoparticles: A Study on Mice
...Show More Authors

The extract of fig fruit has shown significant medical usefulness in various fields. The entrance of nanotechnology into the field of medicinal and pharmacology has shown remarkable advantages. Plants contain diverse molecules thatcan reduce metals, and provide a safe, eco-friendly approach for synthesizing nanoparticles. Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have been reported to possess an antimicrobial effect against some strains of bacteria and moulds. We have aimed to synthesize IONPs from fig fruit extract and investigate the influence of fig extract and IONPs in wound healing of mice. UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the IONPs that were produced

Efficacy of Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy with Adjunctive Methylene Blue and Toluidine Blue O Mediated Photodynamic in Treatment of Periodontitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial
...Show More Authors

Background: This study aimed to examine the efficacy of methylene blue (MB) and toluidine blue O (TBO) photodynamic therapy (PDT) as adjuncts to root surface debridement (RSD). Methods: This split-mouth, randomized, controlled clinical trial included eighteen patients, and a total of 332 sites (control = 102, MB = 124 and TBO = 106) were examined. Two sessions of PDT were completed at baseline and two weeks after RSD. Clinical parameters of bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PI), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were measured pre- and post-treatment. Results: PPD and BOP reductions in sites treated by RSD with adjunctive photosensitizers (MB and TBO) were significantly higher than in control site

Abstract
<title>Objectives

To investigate the antiplaque and antigingivitis efficacy in addition to evaluating side effects and subjects’ perceptions of three commercially available mouthwashes.

Methods

This study was a double‐blind, parallel, and short‐term trial. A total of 75 dental students with biofilm‐induced gingivitis were included in the final analysis of the current study. Clinical parameters (plaque index and bleeding on probing) and the staining effect were measured at baseline and after 7 days. In addition, a VAS‐based assessment questionnaire was completed by the participants.

Background: Nutritional status during childhood is very important for individual development and growth. Nutrition has local and systemic effect on the oral health by affecting dental health and salivary composition. This study was aimed to determine effect of iron, sodium and potassium ions in saliva on the nutritional status and to determine the effect of nutritional status on caries severity among preschool children. Material and Methods: The sample consists of 90 children aged 4 and 5 years of both genders, selected from 6 kindergartens in Al-Resafa aspect of Baghdad province. Children classified according to their nutritional status into three groups (normalweight, underweight and overweight). Nutritional status was determined by usi

Measuring the Historical Concepts of Kindergarten Children

Historical concepts are among the concepts that are difficult to present to the pre-school child except by using modern techniques, as well as the difficulty of making visits to all historical monuments and going back to antiquity and the lack of studies in this area, therefore, we need an attractive medium that children love which is able to convey some abstract concepts that are difficult to teach to children using traditional methods, and among these activities that the kindergarten provides to children are the stories through which they develop their linguistic wealth, consolidate their religious and spiritual inclinations, refine their correct morals, and form their proper attitudes, knowledge and life concepts.
