Background and Objectives: Urinary tract infections (UTIs), among a wide range of microbial infections, are of a double-edged worry with health-care and economic implications. They are serious diseases that can influence various parts of the urinary tract. The aim of this study was characterization of the enteric bacteria isolated from urine of human UTIs and studying their antimicrobial sensitivity. Materials and methods: A total of 50 urine samples were collected from patients with UTIs of both genders. The isolates identification was done using routine diagnostic methods and confirmed by Vitek2. Antimicrobial susceptibility was done against 10 antimicrobials. Results: Both genders of human were found to suffer from urinary tract problems caused by bacteria. Out of 50 patients, 45 (90%) of the cases showed bacterial growth. Approximately, 30.43% of the human infections were found to be caused by members of the Enterobacteriaceae family. The ratio of female patients with UTIs was more than that of males, the most common bacterium isolated from human urine was E. coli, which constituted approximately 85.7% of the enteric bacteria isolated and 26.1% of all bacterial isolates. Other members of Enterobacteriaceae family were also isolated from patients enrolled in this study, such as Citrobacter freundii, which constituted the same incidence rate as K. pneumoniae. Concerning antimicrobial resistance, 11, 10, 9, and 8 out of 12 of E. coli isolates were resistant to Erythromycin, Vancomycin, Tetracycline, and Ceftazidime together, respectively, with a range of resistance from 91.7% to 66.7%. Low percentages of bacteria showed intermediate sensitivity to Imipenem, Gentamicin, Chloramphenicol, Vancomycin, and Erythromycin. However, 12, 11, 10, 10, 9, and 8 out of 12 isolates were susceptible (susceptibility ranged from 100% to 66.7%) to each of Cefotaxime, Chloramphenicol, Imipenem, Amikacin, Ciprofloxacin, and Gentamicin. Conclusions: Escherichia coli was the most common bacteria isolated from human UTIs. All of the isolates were multi-drug resistant toward at least four antimicrobials. Particularly, Erythromycin and Vancomycin had no effect on the enteric bacteria at all. Imipenem might be the most effective drug against a large number of the human isolates.
Introduction: With the advent of era of targeted cancer therapy, the serious side effects of chemoradiotherapy have been minimised. Considering the success story of anti-HER2/neu drugs in breast cancer oncology, the present study was conducted. The study evaluates the immunohistochemical expression of HER2/neu in endometrioid cancer among Iraqi patients. Aim: To assess the immunohistochemical expression of HER2/neu in endometrioid carcinoma of uterus and to find the relationship of this expression with FIGO stage and grade and with patient age. Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of 62 hysterectomy specimens that were diagnosed as endometrioid carcinoma in the teaching labora

Diabetic people are more likely to develop dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. Type 2 diabetes (T2DM), the most common illness, is generally asymptomatic in its early stages and can go misdiagnosed for years. Diabetes screening may be beneficial in some cases since early identification and treatment can lessen the burden of diabetes and its consequences. This study aimed to find the relationship between Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lipid profile components in T2DM patients. Show MoreInflammatory bowel disease includes both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is a chronic, progressive relapsing disease of gastrointestinal tract that require long-term treatment or maintenance therapy. Taking patient’s beliefs about the prescribed medication in consideration had been shown to be an important factor that affects compliance of the patient in whom having positive beliefs is a prerequisite for better compliance. The aim of the current study was to investigate and assess beliefs about medicines among a sample of Iraqi patients with inflammatory bowel disease and to determine possible association between these beliefs and some patient-specific factors.

Both cellular and humoral immunological responses play crucial roles in disease progression. This study identified the fundamental role of B lymphocytes during the progression of leishmaniasis in human hosts. A cross-sectional study of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) and visceral leishmaniasis (VL) from different parts of Iraq was conducted, and their respective serum IgE levels were measured before any treatment was administered. Sandwich ELISA was used for quantitative measurement of IgE in CL, VL, and control subjects. The results revealed a higher level of IgE con

To evaluate the level of CTHRC1 protein in the sera of 100 RA patients and 25 control and compare levels of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 10 (IL-10), RA disease activity (DAS28), and inflammatory factors. Higher significant serum levels of CTHRC1 (29.367 ng/ml), TNF-α (63.488 pg/ml), and IL-10 (67.1 pg/ml) were found in patient sera as compared to that in control sera (CTHRC1 = 15.732 ng/ml, TNF-α = 33.788 pg/ml, and IL-10 = 25.122 pg/ml).
