Hormonal Changes in a Sample of Iraqi Women and their Relationship to Liver Dysfunction
...Show More Authors

There are numerous bidirectional interactions between the reproductive system and the liver. Sex steroids regulate metabolic health through signaling effects in both peripheral and central metabolic tissues, including adipose tissue, liver, skeletal muscle, and brain, and have a role in the etiology of structural and functional liver diseases. Blood samples were obtained from 90 healthy women (control group) and 90 women that have hormonal changes (patients’ group). The levels of reproductive hormones (follicle stimulation hormone/FSH, luteinizing hormone/LH, estradiol/E2, progesterone/P4) were measured by using fully automated Cobas E411, whereas those of liver enzymes (alanine transaminase /ALT, aspartate aminotransferase/AST, alkaline phosphatase/ALP) were measured by using fully automated Cobas C111. Levels of copper and ceruloplasmin were measured as well. The results demonstrate a strongly significant positive correlation between the levels of FSH and ALT (r = 0.45, p = 0.0001), FSH and AST (r = 0.48, p = 0.0001), and FSH and ALP (r = 0.303, p = 0.005), LH and ALT (r = 0.301, p = 0.005), LH and AST (r = 0.34, p = 0.001), and LH and ALP (r = 0.307, p = 0.004). The reproductive hormones and liver enzymes had a strong positive correlation. The results demonstrate a correlation between estrogen and copper (r = 0.38, p = 0.0001), as well as a highly significant positive correlation between estrogen and ceruloplasmin (r = 0.43, p = 0.0001) and a positive significant correlation between progesterone and copper (r = 0.26, p = 0.01). These findings are consistent with earlier research that has found a clear link between low estrogen levels in the blood and liver disease in women. These findings imply that an abnormally low level of estrogen may render women more susceptible to developing liver damage.

Risks assessment for the retrieval of radioactive waste from the old Russian cemetery Al -Tuwaitha site
...Show More Authors

In this work the radioactive wastes in the Old Russian
Cemetery Al -Tuwaitha site were classified according to risks for
workers who are involved in the retrieval process. The exposure
assessment results expressed as estimates of radionuclide intakes by
inhalation and ingestion, exposure rates and duration for external
exposure pathways, and committed effective dose equivalents to
individuals from all relevant radionuclides and pathways. Results
showed the presence of natural radionuclides Ra-226, Th-234 and K-
40, as well as the produced radionuclide Cs-137 and Eu-152 in the
cemetery wells. The absorbed doses from the waste were classified to
two categories; exempt waste and low level waste according to

DNA BARCODING OF NORTH AFRICAN CATFISH CLARIAS GARIEPINUS (BURCHELL, 1822) (SILURIFORMES, CLARIIDAE) FROM TIGRIS RIVER, IRAQ
...Show More Authors

The conservation for biodiversity in Iraqi freshwater environments is important to protecting native species from the environmental impacts of alien species. Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) (Siluriformes, Clariidae) has been recognized as an alien species in Iraqi water bodies. This study aims to use molecular DNA to identify this catfish and trace its origins using. The DNA sequences of C. gariepinus were done using the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene, and a specific primer set. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification was used to align the COI gene as a barcoding marker. After analysis, the sequences were compared with sequences in the National Center for Biology Information (NCBI) database

Petrophysical Evaluation of the Jeribe–Euphrates Formation Using Well Log Data, Fauqi Oil Field, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The work presented in this paper is a case study of the southeastern Iraqi Fauqi Oil Field to evaluate both the petrophysical properties and lithology of the Jeribe–Euphrates Formations. Reservoir characterization was performed using well log data, including Gamma Ray (GR), Density (RHOB), Neutron (NPHI), Sonic (DT), Spontaneous Potential (SP), and resistivity logs. Data processing, correction, and interpretation were conducted using Interactive Petrophysics (IP) software. The Gamma Ray method was used to estimate shale volume (Vsh), while porosity was calculated using various methods, with the neutron–density combination providing reliable results. To determine water saturation (Sw), the Archie equation was applied using common
