Adaptive Sliding Mode Controller for Servo Actuator System with Friction
...Show More Authors

This paper addresses the use of adaptive sliding mode control for the servo actuator system with friction. The adaptive sliding mode control has several advantages over traditional sliding mode control method. Firstly, the magnitude of control effort is reduced to the minimal admissible level defined by the conditions for the sliding mode to exist. Secondly, the upper bounds of uncertainties are not required to be known in advance. Therefore, adaptive sliding mode control method can be effectively implemented. The numerical simulation via MATLAB 2014a for servo actuator system with friction is investigated to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed robust adaptive sliding mode control scheme. The results clarify, after

Utilizing Load and Loss Factors in Determination of the Technical Power Losses in Distribution System’s Feeders: Case Study
...Show More Authors

This study uses load factor and loss factor to determine the power losses of the electrical feeders. An approach is presented to calculate the power losses in the distribution system. The feeder’s technical data and daily operation recorded data are used to calculate and analyze power losses.

This paper presents more realistic method for calculating the power losses based on load and loss factors instead of the traditional methods of calculating the power losses that uses the RMS value of the load current which not consider the load varying with respect to the time. Eight 11kV feeders are taken as a case study for our work to calculate load factor, loss factor and power losses. Four of them (F40, F42, F43 and F

Automatic Aircraft Landing System: A Review
...Show More Authors

The aircraft landing phase, marking the finishing of a flight plane, is a critical yet dangerous aerial maneuver. Even though it might seem simple, predicting the complexities of performance during landing presents a big challenge due to the dynamic characteristics of the phase, interaction with piloting methods, as well as inherent uncertainties in aerodynamics. Landing is executed in close proximity to the ground at reduced airspeed, the landing phase entails an escalated safety risk. Notably, incidents and accidents, particularly overruns where aircraft fail to slow sufficiently on the runway before landing, underscore the imperative for advanced landing technologies. This paper presents a comprehensive review of rese

Performance Enhancement of an Air Cooled Air Conditioner with Evaporative Water Mist Pre-cooling
...Show More Authors

The present paper deals with experimental investigation of the performance of air cooled split air conditioner, with evaporative water mist pre cooling to increase the cooling capacity and reduce the consumption power under hot and dry climate. This investigation considers how the performance can be enhanced by using water mist to pre-cool ambient air entering the condensers by adiabatic cooling process which depends on the ambient air wet bulb temperature; as well the condensing temperature and condensing pressure will be decreased accordingly. So the cooling capacity would be increased and consumption power would be decreased, consequently the energy ratio, EER would be improved. The performance of air cooled air conditioner with water

Due to the dramatic environmental impact of sulfur emissions associated with the exhaust of diesel engines, last environmental regulations for ultra-low-sulfur diesel require a very deep desulfurization (up to 15 ppm), which cannot be met by the conventional hydrodesulfurization units alone. The proposed method involves a batch ultrasound-assisted oxidative desulfurization (UAODS) of a previously hydrotreated diesel (containing 480 ppm sulfur) so as to convert the residual sulfur-bearing compounds into their corresponding highly polar oxides, which can be eliminated easily by extraction with a certain highly polar solvent. The oxidizing system utilized was H2O2 as an oxidant, CH3COOH as a

In most of the group technology approaches the formulation and simplification of data entry has been ignored. This has lead to difficulties and complexity for the end-user of the group technology, especially in the cases where the number of machines and components are large and complex. The way the daa are inputted are in the form of a 0-1 matrix, which is quit difficult, troublesome, and error creation is possible in their entry, even with double-checking in their input. Also for output results, as it is given in the form of the 0-1 matrix and left to the end-user to interrupt instead of iving the result in a such a way that it could be used by the end-user directly. Computerized Generation of Nonstandard and Asymmetric Involute Spur Gears Based on Rack Cutter Parametric Tracing
...Show More Authors

In the field of gear design, to apply any form of analysis (such as FEA, dynamic, and stress analyses), a delicate and accurate representation of the gear geometry is essential. It is the foundation for any design modification attempts, and any approximation of the tooth profile must be avoided. In the literature, many approximations were held to the involute tooth geometry, particularly in the filet region, where it was simply represented by a straight line or circular arc instead of a true trochoidal arc from a generation process. This approach might lead to inaccurate bending stress results, as it fails to detect the impact of the undercut or the profile correction process. Other common approximations have been widely

Marshall Properties and Rutting Resistance for Asphaltic Mixtures Modified by Nano-Montmorillonite
...Show More Authors

Rutting is a significant problem in flexible asphalt pavements, causing permanent deformation. Increased traffic, axle load, tire pressure, and hot weather have recently accelerated rutting in flexible pavements. Several researchers have suggested using nanomaterials to improve asphalt pavement and prolong its lifespan. The nano clay chosen for this study is a natural, hydrophilic montmorillonite in its raw form. Consequently, incorporating Nano-montmorillonite (MMT) into asphalt mixtures to improve performance under dynamic loads has gained significant attention. This can help reduce rutting damage and ensure the safety and durability of road surfaces. This study examines the impact of incorporating MMT into hot mix asp

No-fines Concrete is a lightweight porous concrete produced by omitting sand from the traditional concrete mix. It helps replenish the groundwater aquifer by directly allowing precipitation to seep into the earth thanks to its wide pores. This work studied the influence of partially replacing cement with silica fume (SF) with percentages of 5, 8, and 10% on some properties of no-fine concrete made using recycled coarse aggregate. The natural coarse aggregate (NA) was replaced with 10%, 20%, and 30% by crushed reactive powder concrete waste volume as recycled aggregate (RA). The optimum percentage was 10% RA with 10% SF, which indicated a substantial improvement in the no-fine concrete's strength, dry density, and water a

pole assignment technique specifies all closed-loop poles. Such a system where the reference input always zero is called a regulator system. The problem of shifting the regulator poles (closed-loop poles) at the desired location is called pole assignment problem, and this can be done if and only if the system is completely state controllable. Controller's objective is to maintain the speed of rotation of the motor shaft with a particular step response. Results obtained were compared with another controller applied to the DC motor based on Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control. The controller was designed and tested using MATLAB 7 programming language.
