Developing an Indoor Environment Assessment Tool for Residential Buildings
...Show More Authors

The Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) describes an indoor space condition that the wellbeing and comfortability are provided for the users. Many researchers have highlighted the importance of adopting IEQ criteria, although they are not yet well defined in the Kurdistan region. However, environmental quality is not necessary for the contemporary buildings of the Kurdistan Region, and there is no measurement tool in the Region. This research aims to develop an IEQ assessment tool for the Kurdistan region using Mixed method methodology, both qualitative and quantitative. Therefore, a Delphi Technique was used as a method initially developed as systematic, interactive forecasting on a panel of experts. Thirty-five Delphi C

Experimental Evaluation of the Strut-and-Tie Model Applied to Deep Beam with Near-Load Openings
...Show More Authors

It is commonly known that Euler-Bernoulli’s thin beam theorem is not applicable whenever a nonlinear distribution of strain/stress occurs, such as in deep beams, or the stress distribution is discontinuous. In order to design the members experiencing such distorted stress regions, the Strut-and-Tie Model (STM) could be utilized. In this paper, experimental investigation of STM technique for three identical small-scale deep beams was conducted. The beams were simply supported and loaded statically with a concentrated load at the mid span of the beams. These deep beams had two symmetrical openings near the application point of loading. Both the deep beam, where the stress distribution cannot be assumed linear, and the ex

This paper presents the dynamic responses of generators in a multi-machine power system.  The fundamental swing equations for a multi-machine stability analysis are revisited. The swing equations are solved to investigate the influence of a three-phase fault on the network largest load bus. The Nigerian 330kV transmission network was used as a test case for the study. The time domain simulation approach was explored to determine if the system could withstand a 3-phase fault. The stability of the transmission network is estimated considering the dynamic behaviour of the system under various contingency conditions. This study identifies Egbin, Benin, Olorunsogo, Akangba, Sakete, Omotosho and Oshogbo as the key buses w

This study's primary emphasis was locating appropriate locations in the valley of Al-Abyadh for water harvesting dams. Water harvesting techniques are one possible answer for Iraq's water difficulties caused by climate change and the existing dams in the high reaches of rivers, which have exposed the world to severe drought. Water harvesting is collecting water from a specific area, beginning with rainwater in the ground and conserving it by building dams to store it. Valley Al-Abyadh, which extends 268 km and has an area of 4188.96 km2, is situated in Anbar Governorate's western desert. Water flows into the Al-Abyadh valley through four basins. This study aims to examine the four basins hydrologically and ana

NON-ISOTHERMAL MODELING OF SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM INCLUDING SOIL TEMPERATURE EFFECT
...Show More Authors

Soil vapor extraction (SVE) is a proven effective in-situ technology for the removal of volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) from the subsurface. SVE process is highly sensitive to temperature.
Studying annual soil temperature variation with depth declares that there is a considerable temperature
variation in the upper few meters that may affect the overall efficiency of SVE process.
A numerical model was developed to aid in investigation of field-scale soil vapor extraction
process. The model is three-dimensional, time dependent that simulates nonisothermal vapor flow and
transport of multicomponent mixtures in soil and keeps track of the distribution of each compound in
the other three immobile phases (NAPL, aqueous,

This paper introduces a new method in the multispectral image fusion based on ridgelet
transform which represents edges better than wavelets. Since edges play a fundamental rule in
image understanding, one good way to enhance spatial resolution is to enhance the edges. Ridgelet
based image fusion method provides richer information in the spatial and spectral domains
simultaneously. Also another method introduced based on new Hybrid transform which is
improvement from the Ridgelet transform. Here we used our method to merge the panchromatic

This paper proposes a novel control strategy for a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) to effectively mitigate voltage and current disturbances in three-phase four-wire (3P-4W) systems. Existing UPQC control approaches often struggle to address unbalanced load conditions, resulting in significant power quality degradation. This research addresses this gap by introducing a fast fuzzy logic (FFZ) controller, which, in comparison to traditional PI controllers, offers enhanced performance in managing DC voltage fluctuations and generating accurate reference currents for the shunt active filter. The proposed FFZ controller effectively minimizes the impact of unbalanced loads on DC voltage, reducing error and improving ov

The shear strength of soil is one of the most important soil properties that should be identified before any foundation design. The presence of gypseous soil exacerbates foundation problems. In this research, an approach to forecasting shear strength parameters of gypseous soils based on basic soil properties was created using Artificial Neural Networks. Two models were built to forecast the cohesion and the angle of internal friction. Nine basic soil properties were used as inputs to both models for they were considered to have the most significant impact on soil shear strength, namely: depth, gypsum content, passing sieve no.200, liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index, water content, dry unit weight, and initial

The one-dimensional, spherical coordinate, non-linear partial differential equation of transient heat conduction through a hollow spherical thermal insulation material of a thermal conductivity temperature dependent property proposed by an available empirical function is solved analytically using Kirchhoff’s transformation. It is assumed that this insulating material is initially at a uniform temperature. Then, it is suddenly subjected at its inner radius with a step change in temperature. Four thermal insulation materials were selected. An identical analytical solution was achieved when comparing the results of temperature distribution with available analytical solution for the same four case studies that assume a constant thermal con

Modified Grid Clustering Technique to Predict Heat Transfer Coefficient in a Duct of Arbitrary Cross Section Area
...Show More Authors

A simple straightforward mathematical method has been developed to cluster grid nodes on a boundary segment of an arbitrary geometry that can be fitted by a relevant polynomial. The method of solution is accomplished in two steps. At the first step, the length of the boundary segment is evaluated by using the mean value theorem, then grids are clustered as desired, using relevant linear clustering functions. At the second step, as the coordinates cell nodes have been computed and the incremental distance between each two nodes has been evaluated, the original coordinate of each node is then computed utilizing the same fitted polynomial with the mean value theorem but reversibly.

The method is utilized to predict
