Use of Tannin-Containing Plants as Antimicrobials Influencing the Animal Health
...Show More Authors

The antimicrobial effects of diverse tannin-containing plants, particularly condensed tannins (CTs) produced from various plants, are the subject of this study. CT components can be determined using CT-specific procedures such the HCl-Butanol Acetone assay, Thiolysis reaction, and HPLC/MS analysis. These methods indicate CT contents, including mean degree of polymerization, the procyanidins and prodelphinidins ratio (PC/PD%), the isomers of trans- and cis-, and CT concentration. Tannin-containing plants possess antibacterial action, which can be attributed to their protein linkage technique, and tannin-type variations, particularly CTs extract and their PC/PD%. The effects of CT components on the development of Gram-positive and Gram-neg

This study is conducted to detect lumpy skin disease virus in Babylon, Al-Qadysia and Al-Muthana governorate during autumn 2014 using conventional polymerase chain reaction. A total of 150 specimens: 50 whole blood samples, 50 skin nodular biopsies and 50 tick samples were collected from infected animals of different breeds, genders and ages during lumpy skin disease outbreak. The results revealed that 104 cases (69.33%) were positive for lumpy skin disease virus by using polymerase chain reaction, with significant (P<0.05) differences between positive and negative cases. Out of 50 blood samples, 22 cases (44%) were positive for lumpy skin disease virus. The nodular skin samples collected from slaughtered anim

Cheddar cheese was made from milk which had been inoculated with psychrotrophs 48hr.. prior to pasteurization. This was compared to ‘control cheese. The cheese was stored at 7 °C and evaluated at 0, 5, 30, 60 and 180 days. ‘All cheese made with psychrotroph-treated milk had significant lower flavor score than control cheese. The predominant flavors of the 180 day-treated cheese were bitter and unclean. High performance. liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis indicated significant increases of citric, pyruvic, lactic, formic, acetic and propionic acids with ‘aging of Cheddar cheese. Only orotic acid decreased with aging. The control cheese had lower values than the treated cheese for pyruvic, lactic and formic acids. The control che

This trail was carried out on twelve Awassi ewes in the Animal Farm of College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2005 to study the cellular changes that occur in the vaginal epithelium after parturition, by using vaginal smear method. The post-parturient period was divided into three periods; 4th, 16th and 28th days after parturition. Each period presented different sizes of vaginal epithelial cells, some of them were predominant. Keratinization takes place in all periods. The 2nd period was characterized by cellular division, presence of vacuolated epithelial cells and WBCs mainly neutrophils cells. The conclusion, variations in the vaginal epithelium may relate to the physiological status and the hormonal activity of the animals.
