Clinical, Bacteriological, and Molecular Study of Streptococcus equi Isolated from Horses in Baghdad, Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study addresses the limited research on Streptococcus equi subsp. equi (S. equi) infections in horses in Baghdad, Iraq, a highly contagious disease known as strangles. The objective was to investigate the clinical, bacteriological, and molecular characteristics of these infections. A total of 115 samples were collected from 100 racehorses, consisting of 85 nasal swabs from horses without abscesses and 30 samples (15 nasal swabs and 15 abscess samples) from 15 horses with abscesses. The bacterium was identified based on traditional bacteriological diagnostic methods and confirmed using PCR amplification of the seeI gene. PCR detected a 34% infection rate. The findings demonstrated

groups, eight animals for each group. The age of these groups were (1, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150
days). The mean weights, volume, length, width, and thickness of both left and right testes were
recorded. The positions of testes in all ages were described. The results showed the testes were found
at sub lumber region at one day postnatally, moved and start ingress the inguinal canal at 15 days of
age, and mostly located moving in the inguinal canals and near to the developing scrotum between

This study was conducted to investigate the anatomical, histological characteristic features of epididymis, ductus deferens and phallus of male guinea fowl (Numidia meleagris ). Fifteen healthy male guinea fowl aged between 18-24 months, weighing 1280 - 1405 gram were used in current study which brought from local market in Baghdad governorate. The epididymis of guinea fowl consisted from rete testis, efferent ductless, connecting duct and epididymal duct. The study revealed that the mean diameter of epididymal ducts was 285.17± 2.43µm lined with pseudostratified columnar epithelium. The epididymal duct continuous with ductus deferens which become wider caudally towards the cloaca, the length of right and left ductus deferens were 9.16

The results showed increase of latency period to reach the novel object in L-arginine treated groups and decrease in both L-NAME and methylene blue treated groups in both periods of treatment (15 and 30) days and were more prominent in male than in female mice as compared with control groups. Similar results were observed in passive avoidance latency period to enter the dark compartment. The control were (40) healthy pregnant women with a history of a normal pregnancy. The innate immunity in abortive women was higher than normal pregnancies, that was estimated by Nitroblue Tetrazolium test done to estimate the phagocytic activity, there was a significant increase (P=0.009) in phagocytic activity in the leukocytes of abortive women which was (22%) higher than that in control.
