Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for Determination of Toxic Metals in Fertilizers: emphasis on Lead
...Show More Authors

The present work aims to evaluate the content of some toxic metals in chemical and organic fertilizers purchased from local markets in Baghdad, Iraq. The analysis was performed by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) system. The emission spectral lines of lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) and cobalt (Co) have been recorded to determine the best peak representing each element according to the NIST database. The validity of the LIBS procedure was checked by cross-validating the obtained results using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) with a maximum relative error of 5.3%. Moreover, for qualitative analysis, Pb I 296.64 nm emission line was determined to be superior for the evaluation of lead content in terms of three

Biomarker Significance of Interleukin-18 in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
...Show More Authors

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) represents a group of multifactorial autoinflammatory arthritis diseases. A dysregulated production of pro-inflammatory cytokines is proposed to have a role in the pathogenesis of the disease. Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is one of these pro-inflammatory cytokines. Therefore, this study aimed to define the role of IL-18 in the pathogenesis of JIA. Accordingly, the serum level of IL-18 was determined in 59 Iraqi JIA patients and 58 matched controls. The results revealed a significantly increased median of IL-18 in the patients as compared to the control. A similar increased level was observed in subgroups of patients characterized according to gender, seropositivity for C-reactive protein and rheumatoid facto

Dielectric and gas sensing properties of in situ electrochemically polymerized PPy-MgO-WO3 nanocomposite films
...Show More Authors

A polypyrrole-based ammonia-detection gas sensor was studied in this work. Under a 1.6 V electrodeposition potential, polypyrrole (PPy) was electrochemically synthesized from an aqueous solution of 0.1 M pyrrole and 0.1 M oxalic acid. An extension to the polypyrrole films was applied through electrochemical deposition on indium tin oxide (ITO), using the metal oxide nanoparticles of MgO and WO3. These films were investigated for their sensing behavior towards NH3 at different working temperatures and different weight percentages of nanoparticles .The measurements of A.C conductivity were conducted over a frequency range of 101-105 Hz and temperature range of 298-423 K .

Molecular epidemiology techniques played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the genotyping of emerging variants was essential for effective surveillance, predicting transmission rates, and understanding the evolutionary dynamics of the virus. In Iraq, the epidemiological status before and after the 4th wave of Omicron emerging variant is unknown as it was preceded by a mass gathering event of Arbaeen pilgrimage. In this study, TaqPath RT-PCR assay was exploited along with epidemiological approaches to monitor and track dominant mutation and to identify hot spot region in Iraq through analyzing 3,748 SARS-CoV-2 positive specimens collected from different Iraqi governorates from September 5th, 2021, to March 28th, 2022. Age-stage prediction models based on facial images are essential for various applications, including forensic investigations, medical imaging, social media advertising, and compliance with age-related regulations. These models provide valuable insights and predictions, helping inform decision-making and improve outcomes. The proposed model estimates the human age stage by analyzing a face image, extracting various facial features and wrinkles, and then connecting these extracted feature patterns to determine the age stage. To address potential limitations in facial images, such as variations in lighting, pose, expression, and image quality, which can impact prediction performance, the proposed model utilizes a neural network architecture

In today's data-driven business environment, organizations' dependence on cutting-edge technologies is constantly increasing in order to gain meaningful information from big data. Raw data's size and complexity make it unusable for decision-making. To address this, BI systems transform raw data into clear, insightful information by leveraging the Hadoop framework to process big data. This study is concentrated on the creation of a business intelligence (BI) system depending upon deep learning (DL) approaches, especially one-dimensional convolutional neural networks (1-D CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). The proposed approach takes advantage of the DL algorithms for examining and picking up intricate patterns in sequential data, whi
