Outdoor Scene Classification Using Multiple SVM
...Show More Authors

This paper presents a hierarchical two-stage outdoor scene classification method using multi-classes of Support Vector Machine (SVM). In this proposed method, the gist feature of all the images in the database is extracted first to obtain the feature vectors. The image of database is classified into eight outdoor scenes classes, four manmade scenes and four natural scenes. Second, a hierarchical classification is applied, where the first stage classifies all manmade scene classes against all natural scene classes, while the second stage of a hierarchical classification classifies the outputs of first stage into either one of the four manmade scene classes or natural scene classes. Binary SVM and multi-classes SVMs are employed in the fir

In this work, a modified water displacement method (MWDM) was designed and used alongside geometry method (GEM), overflow method (OFM) and water displacement method (WDM) for determination of bulk volume of a porous solid. Their results were analyzed graphically and statistically. On testing against the data obtained by Suspension/Buoyancy Method (SBM) used as gold standard, it was found that only those generated by the modified water displacement method (MWDM) were of very high accuracy and precision. Apart from its reproducibility being within the recommended range for acceptability of a test method, the technique is cost-effective and easy to apply even with an ungraduated glass cylindrical tube. This can go a long way in enhancing th

In this paper, we discuss a fluid problem that has wide applications in biomechanics, polymer industries, and biofluids. We are concerned here with studying the combined effects of porous medium and heat transfer on MHD non-Newtonian Jeffery fluid which flows through a two dimensional asymmetric, inclined tapered channel. Base equations, represented by mass conservation, motion, energy and concentration conservation, were formulated first in a fixed frame and then transformed into a moving frame. By holding the assumptions of “long wavelength and low Reynolds number” these physical equations were simplified into differential equations. Approximate solutions for the velocity profile, stream function, and temperature profile we
